My Healthy Green Family is a blog that follows my family as we journey towards a more sustainable lifestyle.
I am a stay at home mom of three children. I was trained as a teacher but have chosen to stay at home while I raise my children. I am married to a commercial fisherman who I love very much even though he leaves me at regular intervals to spend quiet, peaceful days on a boat with only fish to entertain him! We live on a small acreage on the outskirts of a city on the coast of BC, Canada. My children enjoy free-ranging the forested areas, making forts and tracking imaginary creatures.
I enjoy gardening, throwing pottery, hiking, reading and cooking. My family and I are interested in sustainable living, including raising chickens for meat and eggs, raising Nigerian Dwarf goats for dairy purposes, raising pigs for meat, and keeping bees for honey and wax. We grow a fruit and vegetable garden each year and preserve the excess. I buy organic whenever possible and I believe in whole food cooking and baking. I am a breast-feeding, baby-wearing, cloth diaper supporter, and have had great success with early elimination communication. I value the outdoors as both a classroom and a provider for our family. I am a firm believer in buying second-hand first as a way of reusing and reducing, and I make as many of my own cleaning and body care products as I can from safe, natural ingredients.
My family and I have a deep respect for and appreciation of the food that we grow or raise. We believe that by raising our own we are teaching our children to value the food we eat. We also believe that we are providing our family with a safer, healthier alternative to today’s conventional food supply.
It is an honor to have you here!
